Ziva David and Kate Todd

Ziva David is one of the exciting characters in the series that has contributed an extra dose of charm to the show. Kate Todd also gave a witty and flexible mix to the series. Yet who was more engaging of the two? Who made the show more fun and addicting?

The first episode of the series marked Caitlin “Kate” Todd‘s entrance to Gibb’s team in NCIS. Her flexible and resourcefulness was highlighted and carried on throughout the two seasons she was in on the show.

As the show went, Kate proved to be one of the assets of the show, and the team. She developed great rapport with the other characters and gave out a cool and solid appeal to female investigators. Her “entanglement” with the main male casts also became an entertainment for the viewers. Her relationship with Jethro Gibbs was viewed as respectful as well as a little flirtatious. Her quirks with Tony Dinozzo was seen as a “sibling” squabble. And her interesting “bond” with terrorist Ari Haswari created a dangerous atmosphere to which most viewers became attracted to.

Kate Todd was murdered at the end of season 2, as Sasha Alexander asked to be written off the show. Her death caused some confusion and mild outrage among the audience, as she was one of the main characters of the show and has given justice to the her role.

Replacing Kate Todd on the team, Ziva David‘s entrance raised some eyebrows but glued everyone to how she would turn out in the series. And I have to say, she turned out to be an amazing addition.

A Mossad agent, fast-thinking and trained to kill, her character appeared to be calculating and sharp. She adapted well to the pace, and has become a trusted member of the team, as well as earning a thumbs up from the viewers. She was also equipped with a sense of humor and smug confidence that allowed her to balance well with Tony’s and Timothy McGee‘s jokes and taunts. Through her rough upbringing as a Mossad agent, she is undoubtedly the strongest in the team when it comes to combat.

Cote de Pablo is still on the show, and Ziva David has been modeled as a round character as each season passes. As the show becomes more involving and striking to the characters’ personal lives, Ziva’s character has also been brought out more and more.

My Verdict:

I go for Cote de Pablo and her character as Ziva David. She delivers more humor and more wit into the show. And with Kate Todd only appearing in two seasons, and Ziva currently in four, Ziva has had more time to captivate the audience and be more recognized. Plus the fact that she can kick some serious butt, she has got to be more interesting than Kate Todd.

CSI and NCIS

CSI franchise

CSI Crime Scene Investigation began in 2000, and has been so successful that it has spawned spin-offs and franchises. NCIS began when the original cast’s appearance in JAG prompted some interest to make a series on them. It is now going along smoothly with its sixth season and does not appear to be slowing down.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

It started with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and became CSI: Las Vegas when its two other franchise, CSI: NY and CSI: Miami, also became hits. Among the three, though, it is still CSI: Las Vegas that has the upper hand, mostly due to the fact tht it was the first and has already established some ground among TV audiences.

CSI: NY and CSI: Miami are running their 5th and 7th seasons, respectively. CSI: Las Vegas goes on their 9th season, even with the departure of the show’s main lead, William Petersen, with two other main characters, Jorja Fox and Gary Dourdan.  CSI: Miami also had their share of main characters leaving the show, but nothing as dramatic as William Petersen’s departure.

The majority of the main cast are still on the show, though, and the show still delivers thrills and suspense. There’s no sign that the show is stopping, with the many unsual cases and mysteries presented.

NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service

NCIS is also doing great with its sixth season and still has increasing popularity. The series was spawned after a spin-off of the series JAG. While NCIS is also a crime series, what makes it unique is that it only focuses on cases involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.  This would get us into looking how investigators handle high-profile and sometimes highly confidential cases.

NCIS focuses on only one team and one case at a time. The show also incorporates lavish humor with the investigations. There is a trend in which each season has one major case building up throughout the episodes, and this has especially added up to the thrill and suspense.

Which One Is the Better Crime Series? I love them both, but I think NCIS overtakes the CSI franchise. For one, NCIS has a smarter and more humorous lines along the seriousness of the situations they’re in. Another reason is because of the growth and development of each of the main characters in the series. CSI doesn’t dwell deeply unto the lives of its characters. In NCIS, you can really see how each of the agents has gone through emotional abyss. CSI also had their share of dead agents, but NCIS has suffered more. Not that having agents killed off makes the show more fun, no. It’s because it highlights the danger of the job, and shows how it affects the investigations. The CSI franchise has also somehow become a little static in their style; always with two or more cases, with only a surprise here and there each season. NCIS, though, can still surprise us even when it’s already on its sixth season.

The Cast of NCIS

Hana Yori Dango / Boys Over Flowers / Meteor Garden

Hana Yori Dango still remains as one of the most popular manga serials of all time. Since the Asian audience have been pampered with live action versions of the manga, brought out by Taiwan first and Japan second, it was only a matter of time before South Korea brought out a version of their own.

I once made a post comparing Meteor Garden‘s and Hana Yori Dango‘s cast. South Korea has brought out their HYD cast counterparts, though, and there has been a lot of talk on which country has got the best cast for the Boys Over Flowers TV series.

Barbie Hsu, Mao Inoue, and Koo Hye Sun as Makino Tsukushi

Ladies first. Who among the actresses represented the manga’s heroine the best? Taiwan’s Barbie Hsu played it well, and Korea’s Koo Hye Sun acted a little exaggerated at the beginning of the series. Both progressed in acting out as the willful Makino Tsukushi as the series went on. But it was Japan’s Mao Inoue who really made a lasting impression on the HYD fans. From the beginning of the series till the end, she was constantly the weed known as Makino Tsukushi.

Dao Ming Si versus Domyouji Tsukasa versus Goo Joon Pyo

As for the arrogant leader of the famous F4, I’ll have to admit that while he’s a very prominent actor, Japan’s Matsumoto Jun is the last of the three. This is mainly due to the physical appearance. Don’t get me wrong, he really did great in his acting. But comparing him to the bigger Taiwanese and Korean Domyouji Tsukasa, he’s been overpowered. Taiwan’s Jerry Yan and Korea’s Lee Min Ho also didn’t lose out on the acting skills so this would leave us to base our verdict on their charm as the male lead of the series. And when it comes to this, I think Lee Min Ho wins — the looks, that air of arrogance, that masculinity, even Domyouji’s stupidity.

For the silent bishounen and the third end of the love triangle, all three actors managed to mix well with their role. There’s the silence, the stare, the clipped words, and the awkwardness. All three actors really showed smooth awkwardness. Acting-wise, I also can’t compare them much. There is this line between acting awkward and real awkwardness, though, that can sometimes be seen through the acting. Japan’s Oguri Shun has the advantage here because Boys Over Flowers was a first in acting for Taiwan’s Vic Zhou and Korea’s Kim Hyun Joong. Taking that into consideration, I can only surmise that all three are just about on the same level. I have to say, though, regarding physical appearances, Kim Hyun Joong is the perfect Hanazawa Rui.

To act as a playboy, you should also have the looks of a playboy. Taiwan’s Ken Zhu was a little mature-looking to be one. His acting was also a little dry. Nothing about him sparked to me as a playboy. Japan’s Shota Matsuda focused more on his tea ceremonies than on his playboy charms. Korea’s Kim Bum, though, is being brought out to be both. His love story with the Korean counterpart of Matsuoki Yuuki is also being built more in the Korean series, so there’ll definitely be some growth to the character. We can conclude then that Korea’s Kim Bum wins the battle over the Sojirou Akiras.

Now this is hard, mainly because this character doesn’t really have a lot of airtime in the series. How can we deduce who’s the better among the three? I have yet to see Korea’s Kim Joon‘s performance. Japan’s Tsuyoshi Abe didn’t really have that much of an impact. Taiwan’s Vannes Wu, among the three, looks to be the best for the part. He went along with the character’s happy-go-lucky attitude and at times also brought out some maturity. As the Korean version continues on, i might be able to see more of Kim Joon’s performance. But for now, Vannes Wu stays on top of the three.

Look-Alikes : Asian Idols

Kim Hyun Joong is one of the most popular idols of Korea. He’s got the talent, the personality, the charm.. and he’s also got the face… What about the face? Well, it’s a face that appears to be common among popular idols in Asia. Yamashita Tomohisa a.k.a. Yamapi, a very popular idol in Japan, has almost the same features. These two are almost always being compared, with Hyun Joong sometimes credited to be popular in Japan because he looks like Yamapi. I would also like to add a popular face to be compared with these two, this time another popular idol from Taiwan: Farenheit’s Wu Chun, who I can say also commands a huge fan base not just in Taiwan but across Asia, too.

His real name is Tomohisa Yamashita, but is more popularly known by his nickname Yamapi. Yamapi entered the entertainment business when he was 11 and eventually grew to idol stardom. He is currently one of the top male idols of Japan.

Yamapi is the leader and (accepted widely) the best dancer of Jpop group NEWS. He has also collaborated with a fellow pop idol and formed Shuji to Akira. He is also successful as a solo artist, and is also a songwriter.

As the trend of Asian singers goes, Yamapi also delved into acting and was as successful at the craft as he is in the music scene. He has acted in a great many TV dramas and films, and has even won awards for his roles. He is usually one of the male leads in his dramas. For supporting roles, he also stands out with his onscreen charm and suave portrayals.

Taiwan’s Idol: Farenheit – Wu Chun

The oldest of the three, Wu Chun shot to fame as an actor. Afterwards, he joined the popular Taiwanese boyband Farenheit and went on to become one of the top idols and leading men of Taiwanese TV. He was formerly a model and a fitness instructor in Brunei, where he lived.

Aside from being an actor and singer, Wu Chun is also a businessman. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia) and founded their family’s gym, Fitness Zone, in Brunei.

Wu Chun was recently awarded the Young Entrepreneur of the Year (under real name Goh Kiat Chun) back in August during the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards in Brunei.

South Korea’s Idol: SS501 – Kim Hyun Joong

Kim Hyun Joong is a freshie when compared to Yamapi and Wu Chun. Hyun Joong only entered the entertainment industry in 2005, and has achieved relative success as a singer. He is the leader and oldest member of boyband SS501, and has also been appearing in variety shows.

Hyun Joong, as an individual, skyrocketed to fame just recently with his involvement in We Got Married, a reality show where couples are paired up to be husband and wife. Hyun Joong plays the younger husband in an older-woman-and-younger-husband marital life. His 4D personality was exhibited and it charmed a big audience that led to a huge fan base.

Hyun Joong is also just starting onto the drama scene. He was just recently casted as Yoon Ji Hoo, the Korean version of Hanazawa Rui of the popular manga-turned-TV-series Hana Yori Dango. This is his first major acting role and he has shown some passion towards the craft that many can’t help but anticipate great things from him in the future.

Who’s the Idol of the Idols?

Can you choose between these three? Each of them has given us proof that they really deserved to be called idols. Each of them has certainly made a mark in the industry with their idol concepts. I have not really watched Wu Chun’s progress but his entrepreneurship efforts boosted him up for me. On the other hand, I have seen Yamapi’s enough to know that there’s no doubt Japan has a gret idol. Hyun Joong is still starting up on the acting path but he has continuously shown great effort and passion in everything he does… Argh! I can’t choose!

In Numb3rs, we see two brothers who are complete opposites, yet at times are so very much the same. Most people can’t seem to get over with how they are so different from each other. We have the math genius on one side, and we have the muscles on the other. It’s like the brain versus the body, thought versus action.

But I agree with what Don’s ex Kim Hall said: both of them are similar in their approach to problems — “one part exuberance, two parts obsession.” She summed it up perfectly. Don and Charles also share some qualities together. Don isn’t as smart as Charles, but he is intelligent enough to be a leader of an FBI team. Charles may not be as physically able as Don, but at one time Colby Granger had mentioned that Charles has a deceptive body strength, implying that Charles was actually stronger than he looks.

The Lead Agent: Don Eppes

Don Eppes is the older brother, the jock, the cool one.. pretty much the popular guy back in high school: great in sports (baseball), lots of social circles, just the normal teenager who’s all fun and friends. As an adult, he’s become a leading FBI agent, fostered a strict and disciplined way of life while fighting crime, and is still very much the patient brother.

Along the series, we can see his insecurities towards his brother unfold. He has expressed frustration over having a brother 5 years younger than him be in the same grade, making him feel dumb and stupid throughout their school years. As a result, he feels like he is always under his brother’s shadow.

Despite his insecurities, he has remained to be a very caring and patient brother. He has given the impression that he has always stood aside because his brother needed more attention from their parents. He grew up to be very independent. Despite whatever hurt feelings, he is still closely bonded with Charlie. Throughout Numb3rs, Don has also changed to be more comfortable and open towards Charlie. And although, he still doesn’t get half of his brother’s mathematical abilities, Don inevitably starts to rely more on his brother and his skills. Don still has hesitations sometimes, but in the end he accepts the fact that Charlie has always been a great help to him and his team.

Although five years younger, Charlie Eppes graduated alongside his brother and became a respected mathematician and professor at a young age. He is your usual geek: different way of looking at the world, limited number of friends, and awkward. As an adult, he continued to pursue mathematical probabilities and is still stubborn with his mathematical conclusions. We see him as the more carefree of the brothers, probably because his world doesn’t involve many stakeouts and SWAT procedures.

Despite his impressive brain and accomplishments, it seems that the one thing Charlie really wants is to get along very well with his brother. Don just stood at the sides as Charlie grew up. The differences in their character put a gap between them, yet, like a normal younger brother, Charlie still looks up to Don. He likes working with his brother and is a little fearful of breaking the bond that they have formed when he started working with the FBI.

With his involvement with his brother’s work, Charlie has also reevaluated his life. He ventured out to try what Don does for a living, entering a training camp for FBI agents. He still holds true to his math, though. He gets it that many people don’t see the world the way he sees it, but he has never faltered in his views. As Don is obsessed with his work in chasing criminals and fighting crime with his hands, Charlie is determined to use math in solving the crime puzzles.

Who’s Better? Come on now. You can’t choose between them. They’re different from one another whilst complementing each other. Without one of them, the team wouldn’t really be complete and impressive. Don and Charles go together.. else it’ll be like a body without the brain, or the brain with no physical abilities, or whatever else you can think of.

Let’s get to the point of this post then. Dean died and was resurrected by God through an angel. That would put him on the side of good. Well, Dean was always on the side of good when it comes to hunting and vanquishing demons. Sam, too, of course. But we all know that the story gets complicated when it comes to Sam, all because of the demon blood that the yellow-eyed demon Azazel made him drink.

As season 4 progresses, we can’t help but think: Sam has demon blood and may be on the path of the dark side, while Dean becomes a sort of hitman for God. Hmm.. it kind of gives us an idea of a conflict between brothers. Think about it. If Sam eventually gets engulfed with the demonic powers that Azazel gave him, Dean will really have to fight, and maybe kill, his younger brother.

Chosen By a Demon: Sam Winchester

Sam Winchester is the softer one of the two brothers. He is more rational, more innocent, and more sensible. He’s also the rebellious one when it comes to hunting, choosing the path of a university and a normal life instead of the supernatural. Well, he does have the brains and the charms to be a normal popular student in school so living a normal life would be easy for him.

Sadly, his fate is a cruel one. He was chosen by Azazel to command his demon army, and given supernatural powers. With demon blood in him, and a lot of conspiring demons and monsters around them, what choice does he have?

He recently just made a choice never to use his demonic powers again, for fear that he might turn evil at the end. Let’s just hope he keeps this promise. Because a fight between the brothers will definitely happen if he goes over to hell’s side.

Saved by an Angel: Dean Winchester

Ironic things happen to Dean Winchester. For one, he never believed in God or angels.. yet he was pulled from hell by one as willed by the Supreme Being. He has no intention of ever harming his brother but circumstances may lead him to do it.

That’s one thing that differs Dean from Sam. Sam is serious about what they do but Dean takes it one at a time with many a sarcasm on his tongue. Despite his cute cocky attitude, though, he’ll still get the job done. He’s never been one to back down from demons and monsters even if they seem stronger than him and Sam.

But what if his opponent is Sam? When Sam turns to the demonic side, Dean will be forced to fight him for the sake of goodness and heaven. Dean has the blessings the upper beings, but this is his kid brother we’re talking about.

Who Wins? In the end, good will prevail. It has to.. doesn’t it? When we think about it, there’s still the possibility that Sam goes back to good, after all. Dean isn’t the only one with the strong urge to be connected with his brother. Both brothers will always side with each other in the end. I guess we can say then that both of them will win.. and the real challenge of this post is whether or not they will side with good or evil. Will good or evil win in the end?

Flamingoes in Boston Legal

I’m back on my Boston Legal marathon, and I thought, “Why didn’t I make a comparison between the great Alan Shore and the infallible Denny Crane months ago?”

They’re both lawyers. They’re both rainmakers. They’re both brilliant. And they’re both amusing, and funny, and interesting. They both have voracious sexual appetites. Both have their own mental issues. Both can humiliate you off the court with just their words. And both have “bullseyes on their asses.”

And they’re both flamingoes.

Prone to Word Salad: Alan Shore

He certainly has a way with his words that I think he would be nothing without them. His “word salad dilemma” made that all too clear. His word salad episodes, however, were only for a short while. With his words at his command, he’ll definitely have the jury at his mercy.

Not that his method is intimidating. He just has a way in twisting the thoughts of other people into thinking that cannibalism or shooting a photographer/papparazzi is ethically acceptable. Alan Shore would occasionally cross the line beyond his professional training, however, and resort to illegal means just to help a client. Alan Shore is depicted as a cold and insensitive lawyer, but he has also shown, in great respect, a relevant amount of kindness and care for those around him when he can.

He also has the face, a face that visibly challenges those who he thinks are a good “rattle.” And he’ll rattle you back. With flair. And you could end up liking him for it.

Mad Cow Diseased: Denny Crane

Undisputedly one of the great (fictional) lawyers of all time.. with no losses and a hundred percent victory rate in the courtroom.. it’s Denny Crane.

He’s a crazed one. But he is still unbelievably effective in the courtroom, as Boston Legal has shown time and again. He shocks us a lot with many of his conversations and actions, yet in the end he is still the king of the show (even though the show isn’t all about him).

He’s the funniest one in Boston Legal, I’m sure. Despite his sexual innuendos, he never fails to crack me up with even just a single phrase. Well, two words, in fact: Denny Crane.

Who’s crazier? Denny Crane.

Who’s funnier? Denny Crane.

Who’s more successful? Denny Crane.

But I choose Alan Shore.

While Denny Crane can make me laugh all throughout the series, it is still Alan Shore who gets me interested. His vastly complex character leaves the impression that there are still things he’s hiding. His twisted way of winning a case may be ethically challenging, but then his cases calls for it. And while he has suffered losses and Denny Crane has not, Alan shore surely had more stimulating cases than Denny Crane did.

First off as a post for my birth month will be among two gangster-criminal-like actors who are screen legends, both of them. I wanted to make a post on them earlier, but i only got around to thinking about them recently. I especially heard that they were going to make another movie together, entitled Righteous Kill.

Al Pacino and Robert de Niro already acted on two movies together: Heat and The Godfather II. In both movies, they showed just how convincing they could be as men of guns. Whether the role calls for a hitman, a gangster, a cold-blooded criminal, or a hardcore cop, these two never fail to deliver their best.

The Godfather Gangster: Al Pacino

He has taken on roles that involve a lot of hitting, a lot shooting, and a hell lot of killing. With award-winning performances in many of his movies, Al Pacino knows his character and embraces it. He was terrifying in his gangster roles like in Scarface, feared in The Godfather trilogy, and realistic in his dramatic performances like in Scent of a Woman.

Al Pacino has a long list of nominations and awards for his roles. His easy yet convincing portrayal of his characters undoubtedly made him a star. His dedication to his craft was very evident to the entertainment industry and his fans.

While he branched out to dramatic roles, and even won awards for them, Pacino is best remembered as a gangster or a criminal lord. To this day, while I favor Scent of a Woman a lot, his image still comes across me as a man with a mission.. and a gun.

Enigmatic: Robert de Niro

Robert de Niro also shines as a gangster. He’s at par with Al Pacino in this one. The only difference I can think of between the two of them as gangsters is, while Al Pacino would be holding the gun, Robert de Niro would just be sitting back in his armchair smoking a cigar, with a devilish smile and a deceitful glint in his eyes. Pacino would go out shooting people; de Niro would stay in giving orders to kill.

This is another star who just has that natural charm of bringing to life strong and aggressive portrayals like Al Capone and Vito Corleone. He also an impressive list of awards, as well as branching out to producing and directing films (like Pacino).

The one area where de Niro seems to outshine Pacino is his sense of humor, probably. In recent years, de Niro has starred in comedy films like Analyze This and Meet the Parents. He also shared his voice to the animated film Shark Tale.

Who do YOU go for?

I honestly like them both. They’ve shown great talent and that’re both geniuses in their craft. Despite their gangster-like faces, they are awesome and entertaining legends who have given us films that are most likely part of our top 20 favorite films list.

But I choose Robert de Niro over Al Pacino. This is mainly because Robert de Niro showed us his sense of humor and actively acted in comedy films. Al Pacino is all drama, which is not a bad thing. But I tend to like dramatic actors who can also be convincing in a funny role.

The Dark Knight showed the Joker (portrayed by Heath Ledger) as one of the darkest and most insane criminals in the fictional world. And I thought over other fictional sociopaths that gave off — or almost gave off — the same scent as the joker, and one name came to mind: Hannibal Lecter, as portrayed by Sir Anthony Hopkins.

So who’s the calmer but more devious one? Both are definitely genuinely geniuses who unfortunately saw the world differently from us. In their elements, they are both calm and thinking, seeing great beauty in their beliefs. When they act on their beliefs, they create great catastrophe. And they do it gladly.

Hannibal Lecter was also portrayed by Brian Cox (Manhunter) and Gaspard Ulliel (Hannibal Rising) but the most memorable portrayal of the infamous cannibal was that of Sir Anthony Hopkins. With his chilling performance and those calm but maddening eyes, his performance was very mesmerizing that he won an Oscar for it and got to play it in a total of three Hannibal Lecter movies.

Hannibal Lecter was a brilliant psychiatrist. He was also a cannibal serial killer. Creator Thomas Harris never gave a clear explanation as to the inspiration for the character. Harris had been in many investigative cases and court trials of serial murders and brutal killings for us to know for sure the origin of Dr. Lecter.

According to fictional character Special Agent Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter wasn’t as crazy as everybody else thought. Graham is the hero of Red Dragon, and was the one who exposed and captured Hannibal Lecter. Having been favorited by Hannibal Lecter himself because they think alike, we can say that it is Graham who knows Lecter the best. And when he says Lecter’s not crazy, we can really believe it.

Now just how do you add up a cannibal serial killer who’s “not crazy”? He would be intelligent, calm, calculating, and deadly. And this is an understatement when we’re talking of Hannibal Lecter.

Heath Ledger’s the Joker

Heath Ledger‘s performance was hailed as one of the best ever, garnering him a rumored posthumous award and reaping the top spot in the superhero movies list. And we absolutely understand why. The Dark Knight‘s Joker was definitely one of the most wicked fictional characters ever placed on screen and, with Heath Ledger behind the makeup, it was one of the highest level of wicked.

The Joker‘s past is not clearly defined either. The general story is that he was once a scientist or an engineer who fell into some vat of chemical waste where he emerged with bleached skin and green hair. This wasn’t confirmed as there were other theories as to how Joker came to be who he is. His real name is also unknown.

What is known is his penchant for killing people and creating chaos for his amusement. Heath Ledger made that very clear in The Dark Knight. He’s also a very smart sociopath, also made very clear in the movie. He also has no remorse whatsoever for the things he’s done. Comes with the job description. Heath pulled that off too.

When you’re a sociopath and you like to joke around, I guess there’s no better way to have fun that to kill people and make some explosions.

Who’s the Most Wicked?

I honestly cannot decide. These two have been so scary. They’re both genius human minds with no heart and smile at people’s deaths. Sir Anthony Hopkins and Heath Ledger made us believe it was them, with their eyes, their tone, their voice, and their creepy words. Hats down to both of them.

Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker had everyone impressed. He really transformed into a creepy murderous clown, and is worthy of being a Batman’s rival. Heath Ledger also became worthy of being Jack Nicholson’s rival for the role.

The Joker is one of the most sinister and most deranged villains of all time. Jack Nicholson is an Academy Award winner known for his roles of neurotic men. Heath Ledger was known for his portrayal of unique characters and was an emerging force in Hollywood.

I don’t remember much of Jack Nicholson‘s performance back then since I was still a geeky kid at school who preferred books over TV. But I can remember his face — that really creepy face. The makeup and the hair would have been okay on any other face, but to put it on Jack’s werewolfy features and Grinchy grin produced a mean face. When I saw Jack Nicholson’s face as the Joker, I immediately knew he was a main villain. He was right for that role.

Jack Nicholson’s facial features did the first step. His portrayal of the character made the leap. Batman wasn’t set in a dark tone like the Batman franchise of today is so the Joker had to be a little more “happy” — irritatingly “happy”. But as the villain, of course, that “happy” demeanor should also be rotten, deranged, and flippantly destructive.

I don’t think there’ll be anyone who’ll disagree that Jack Nicholson made these characteristics a convincing part of him.

There’s been talk of a posthumous Academy Award, and I would definitely vote yes. Heath Ledger gave one of the most riveting and scariest performance ever when he took on the Joker in the recently released The Dark Knight.

While Jack Nicholson went for the comic presentation of the Joker in the 1989 Batman film, Heath went for the realistically deranged criminal genius who just wants to see the world burn up in exploding flames. IT was definitely one of the villainest villains. Heath added more darkness to the dark tone of The Dark Knight. His “clown” side allowed him to fumble with his movements, but he was still downright murderous genius.

Who’s Better As the Joker? My vote goes out to Heath Ledger. His performance said it all. It was mesmerizing and terrorizing, that I know I’ll remember Joker as one of the most vicious villains in history. If Jack Nicholson gave the same impression for me, I would remember him as a mean villain, too. But I don’t. And Heath’s portrayal clearly overrode his, in my opinion.
